Art Institute Field Trip

We had such a fun trip to the Art Institute!  We made so many connections to our learning and enjoyed conjecturing about what the artist might have been trying to communicate to us through their painting.  We received a compliment from our docent, chaperones, and other museum-goers.  What a great day!  I will add more pictures, as I get them from the other chaperones.

This sculpture shows the Greek myth about Hades, Persophone, and Demeter that we just read during Reading.

Emilia was surprised at how big so many of these paintings were.

                                                                Van Gogh's bedroom

This modern sculpture is called Robot boy.
This painting is brand new to the Art Institute

These paintings are Andy Warhol pieces.  They are pop art.

This sculpture is an example of Cubism, and Hugo figured out it's representing a horse.  The artist made it look robotic and was making a statement about horsepower.

This artist likes to trick the eye and represent the impossible in the context of a realistic painting.
Since we've been studying Greek mythology the docent showed us some Greek sculptures and pots.
Each of these Greek pots tells a story.  Mason said these are their reader's notebooks!

This piece of art is 3000 years old and is one of the oldest pieces of art in the world.

In contrast, the fish exhibit in the pictures below is called "In the fish bowl" and we became the art.

The kids were amazed at how this painting was created with individual dots.

Explorers Project

We just concluded a research project with Mrs. O'Kelly in the LMC  about the lives of different European explorers.  We worked on our developing research skills of citing sources and taking notes.  We also tried to understand what motivated explorers, what they gained personally from their exploration, and how they impacted the world.  Click this link to view our projects.
