When studying North American Native American Regions we asked: How does where you live affect how you live? We're asking the same question, as we studied the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonial Regions of North America. We discovered that the environment, climate, and resources available in each region, affected the jobs and living conditions for the English colonists. The different colonies offered different opportunities for those who lived there, and life was different in each of these areas. The kids spent time becoming experts in the characteristics of one colonial region. They researched its characteristics, and even analyzed primary source documents, such as maps, advertisements, and newspaper articles of the time, to understand what life was like in that region during colonial times. As a culminating project to demonstrate all they had learned, the kids made a commercial for their region, highlighting the benefits of living in their colonial region. Take a look, and decide which colonial region you would have liked to settle in!
